In one form or another, I've been in the creative business for 35 years-first as a graphic artist and photographer for Drake University (Des Moines IA), then as a marketing manager for an insurance company (Kirke-Van Orsdel Inc.), and a corporate communications manager for a publishing services company (Communications Data Services Inc.). These experiences also gave me the chance to write, something I absolutely love to do, and plan to do more of.

Ten years ago, I quit the corporate world to chase my dream to be a freelance artist, and to help out my family as a stay-at-home dad. Since then I've produced cartoons and illustrations, and other creative services for a wide-range of clients, as well as done a little ceramics work.

I saw another dream of being a radio talk show host become a reality on October 2005, when "The Creative Dept Radio Show with Dave Phipps" was launched on Newstalk 1450 KNSI (www.1450knsi.com). I write and produce the show, which airs every Sunday at Noon. (It's also live webcast at www.1450knsi.com.) The experience of interviewing over 100 talented artists, writers, musicians, actors and arts organizations from Central Minnesota and beyond, has sparked still another dream of finding new ways to promote artists and educate people about the creative life.

Over the years I've volunteered and worked with a variety of organizations and schools. Currently I'm proud to serve on the board of directors of Visual Arts Minnesota (www.visualartsminnesota.org), an organization dedicated to the visual arts and artists. When given the opportunity, I enjoy speaking to audiences about my creative career, and how they can use creativity in their life, work and teaching. For several years now, I've taught "Drawing Cartoons" for children through the Paramount Arts District (www.paramountarts.org).

In January 2007, I began co-hosting "The Home Show with Dave & Katie," a radio show about home living. It's a lot of fun, and my co-host Katie Harms is wonderful to work with. "The Home Show" airs Saturdays at 8 a.m. on Newstalk 1450 KNSI (www.1450knsi.com) and Sundays at 8 a.m. on Lite 99.9 KCML (www.lite999.com).
